League Structure

The Serrano Youth Soccer League (SYSL) is organized to provide fair, competitive, and convenient play for all players while minimizing travel during the regular season.

• Age Divisions: Players are grouped by age, from U6 to U18, with age-appropriate rules and field sizes.

• Geographic Divisions: San Diego County is divided into multiple divisions to keep regular season games local and reduce travel time for families. Teams primarily play others within their division during the regular season.

• Playoffs: At the end of the regular season, the top teams from each age group in each division advance to the playoffs. These teams compete against other top teams across divisions. Playoff games may involve longer travel, but the league strives to select central locations when possible to keep travel reasonable.

• Championships: Playoffs culminate in finals for each age group, with the winning team crowned as the league or tournament champion (final format to be determined).

• Team Placement: Teams are placed in divisions and age groups based on registration, skill evaluations (for competitive divisions), and geographic location, ensuring balanced and fair competition.
